Vanessa Muncrief , PT, DPT, RYT, CPT is a New York City-based orthopedic physical therapist specializing in manual therapy, women's health, and yoga and pilates. Dr. Muncrief received her Master of Science and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University-College of Physicians and Surgeons and her Bachelor of Arts from University of Texas at Austin. Prior to her career as a physical therapist, Vanessa worked professionally in NYC as both a modern dancer and a print and runway model. Dr. Muncrief is currently on faculty at Harkness Center for Dance Injuries-NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases where she serves as a Clinical Specialist in Dance Medicine. She has worked backstage as a physical therapist for some of the world’s top dance companies including Merce Cunningham, Cirque Du Soleil, and Martha Graham, to name a few. She has been a treating clinician for performers from multiple Broadway and off-Broadway shows like Wicked, In the Heights, Fuerzabruta, and serves as a Clinical Instructor and mentor for up and coming dance therapists. From 2004-06, Dr. Muncrief served as the on-site medical officer and Chief Physical Therapist for Dance Theatre of Harlem, providing their onsite and backstage physical therapy services. She also designed and conducted anatomy and injury prevention courses for the professional training program students and company members. Dr. Muncrief is an active member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS). She has practiced yoga for nearly 15 years and is a graduate of the OM Yoga Teacher Training program in NYC . As a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance and a Certified Pilates Teacher (CPT) through Pilates Method Alliance she aims to fuse a Hatha-Vinyasa inspired yoga practice with the precision and core control principles of Pilates. Vanessa is a contributing health consultant for the "Ask the Doctor" column in Woman's World magazine and has lectured and spoken on various panels on the topics of yoga and health throughout the community. She lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with children's book author and illustrator, David Gavril. |
